Texas High School Show Season Well Under Way

2808207783_340fd5250b_mSpring is well under way in Texas. Along with a bevy of spring sports to choose from, many students, teachers, and parents alike are busy with show season. The springs finds many high schools students surrounded by livestock, manure, and a schedule filled to the brim. In Navarro County, last week was just such a week for multiple area schools.

Navarro County offers a wide range of events to compete in. In market animals: pigs, chickens, lambs, rabbits, steers, llamas, and goats. In breeding animals: rabbits, heifers, and commercial heifers. Navarro County even offers contests in food, crafts, and judging.

Many area schools were able to find success at the Youth Expo this 2015 season. In Market Goats, Trey VanZuuk of Rice FFA took home Grand Champion. In Market Lambs, Nicholas Watson on Frost FFA won the top prize. Adding another local success to the mix was Garris Goff of Blooming Grove FFA, who took home Grand Champion breeding rabbits. And adding yet another local school to the mix, Nash Dansby of Mildred 4-H won big with Grand Champion Market Hog.

With show season up and running, expect other kids across Texas to put in some very hard work and find similar successes with their respective agricultural programs. Find your local fair to show your support.
