The year of 2016 is a big one for cheerleaders in the state of Texas. It marks the first time in the history of UIL that cheerleading is not only credited as a sport, but it also held the first ever competition, crowning a state champion in each division. The competition was met with excitement, serious preparation, and squads from all over the state.
This is where the squad from the small town of Mt. Vernon, TX stood out and marked their territory. The Mt. Vernon cheerleaders won the state title in the 3A division, bringing home the first cheerleading state championship to their small east Texas town. Now the squad not only boosts the morale and energy at their school, but they can be equally celebrated as serious athletes in their own right.
Congratulations to the Mt. Vernon High School cheer squad!
